Career Intelligence for Life Sciences and Manufacturing Leaders

Why You Shouldn't Wait for the Job Posting to Prepare for Your Next Executive Role ☀️

Welcome to the first edition of The NextSeat Newsletter™.

I’ve been looking forward to launching this for a very long time.

Every other Thursday, I’ll share practical insights on career strategy, communication, and executive development for Directors, VPs, and C-Suite leaders across Pharma, Med Device, Biotech and Manufacturing.

You’ll also receive early access to new programs, upcoming group programs, videos, free resources, and answers to reader questions. If there’s a topic you’d like me to cover, I’d love to hear from you at Lisa@newcareerdirections.com.

I chose preparation as the focus of this first edition because it's one of the most powerful ways to build a meaningful and intentional career.

Many accomplished leaders don’t begin preparing for their next move until an opportunity is already in front of them. They see a job posting, scramble to update their resume, rush to clarify their story, and try to communicate their value under pressure.

But that’s not how senior-level hiring works.

By the time a role is posted, the conversation around who might be a fit may already be underway. The leaders who are best prepared have often been building their positioning, refining their message, and strengthening their executive presence long before the opportunity appears.

If you want to be in a new role in 2027, the time to start preparing is now.

The strongest candidates can answer these three questions with clarity and conviction:

🔹 What do I want next? 🔹 Why am I the right person for it? 🔹 Why should they choose me over someone else?

These questions shape your executive brand, your message, and ultimately how you are perceived in interviews and important career conversations.

And they're difficult to answer well when you’re rushing.

This is why I believe career preparation needs to happen before the opportunity, not when the opportunity appears. You may not know exactly what your next role will look like, but you can be ready to pursue the right opportunity when it comes along.

This philosophy is at the heart of the Executive Career Accelerator™, my 90-day intensive designed to help senior leaders build the strategy, message, and executive presence required to compete for the right opportunities. One recent participant secured a VP-level offer within 62 days of starting the program.

But preparation goes beyond knowing what you want and having the right career story.

Executive hiring is not just about what you say. It’s about how you say it.

Your voice, presence, confidence, and ability to communicate your value all influence how others perceive your leadership and capabilities. Senior-level interviews aren't about simply reciting accomplishments. They are about demonstrating judgment, perspective, and the ability to lead.

That's why preparation matters long before the opportunity appears.

When you prepare early, you don't have to chase opportunities. You’re ready for them.

If you’re considering a move in 2027, there’s no need to wait for the perfect job posting to begin.

Start preparing now.
