Are you considering a job search?


If you owned a company, you would track performance, set a strategy, invest in growth, and build strong relationships. I think that everyone's career deserves the same attention. Too many professionals work hard and rarely pause to evaluate their own "business health." Items on the checklist would include skills, network, visibility, and future direction.


When you think like a business owner, you stop leaving your career to chance and start managing it with intention. As a former executive recruiter and now a career and executive coach, I’ve seen firsthand how candidates can miss opportunities to showcase their value during the job search. I recently spoke at a women’s workshop about salary negotiations, and the topic of company interview practices came up. Many companies now ask candidates to create presentations as part of the interview, and some people bristle at the idea, calling it “giving your work away for free.”


I see it differently. In an interview, your job isn’t just to answer questions, it’s to sell yourself. What better way to do that than by demonstrating your process, your thinking, and your impact? If you were a consultant, you’d make a presentation to win the business. Why should a career move feel any different?
